Sexy Sirens of Song Divas continue to grow with 9 new female opera singers

29 August 2006

In Greek mythology, Sirens were mermaids who lured men to their deaths with their enchanting voices – in Australia, they are known as the SIRENS OF SONG.

Chances of being lured to your death are becoming all the more risky at your next corporate function as the Brisbane and Sydney branches of the entertainment group Sirens of Song begin to expand with a new look, a new website, new Sirens and many new performers and shows.

Sirens of Song have crafted a different approach to opera combining arias and songs with other accessible and more popular music forms, creating unforgettable characters whilst also putting their own individual stamp of fun and outrageous style to create an entertaining and unique performance.

Creative director and founder of The Sirens of Song Tarita Carbo, has said that her act is in demand and that it has needed to grow to cater for the demands of the corporate and concert sectors.

Tarita now employs nine female sopranos (and mezzos) in Brisbane and Sydney who have entertained corporate and community events nation wide over the past twelve months with over 40 major corporate appearances in Australia as well as performances in South East Asia – most recently for Tourism Australia at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok.

“It gives me so much pleasure to be employing other Australian singers and performers - I really understand how hard it is to keep your head above water as classically trained artists”, said Tarita.

“We have such an unbelievable array of talent right here on our doorstep that deserve so much recognition but just not enough work to go around – I hope Sirens of Song can help to bridge that gap and help to showcase and provide performance opportunities to up and coming stars of the operatic and popular music industries.

By employing artists from Sirens of Song, it is also a very real and tangible way for a business to be assisting young artists on their often difficult paths to success within the extremely difficult music industry”, Botsman continued.

Tarita has been touring Europe with her renowned baritone performer husband Jose Carbo for the past six months, returning recently to her roots in Australia to ensure that Sirens of Song keeps growing and expanding.

Award winning Hall of Fame designer Richard De Chazal has created an edgy, sexy new look ensuring that the performers are swathed in delicious gown creations, stunning audiences with a sophistication rarely seen in the corporate arena.

Sirens of Song have branched out expanding the business in to an agency now and also encompass a number of different acts specialising in an array of musical tastes allowing a variety of versatile performance options.

Tarita has a special interest in artists who have been trained classically and have “crossed over” in to popular styles of music.

Some of these artists now include Melbourne based indigenous singer Deborah Cheetham who wowed audiences alongside international operatic star Jose Cura at the opening of the Rugby World Cup in Sydney in 2003.

Deborah has most recently written and performed her show “Til the Black Lady Sings” to rave reviews for all of Australia’s major festivals including the Brisbane Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Fesitval, Sydney Cabaret Convention and the Perth Festival.

Other shows include a French Cabaret act “Femme Fatale”, performed seductively by Francophile Linda Barcan. Femme Fatale recently performed at Twin Towns Services Club and for Valentine’s Day this year at the Mackay Entertainment Centre.

“String Sirens” feature an all female string quartet with members based between Sydney and Brisbane. The String Sirens have recently recorded with such high profile artists as Anthony Callea, Tim Freedman (“The Whitlams”), Guy Sebastian and John Foreman and performed for the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark during her 2005 Australian visit.

All details and images of the dynamic acts can now be easily downloaded from the new Sirens of Song website www.sirenofsong.com.au
