Ireni has performed the roles of Musetta (La Bohème), Therese/ Tiresias (Les Mamelles de Tiresias), Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Le Feu, La Rossignol and La Princesse (L’Enfant et les sortileges) and performed excerpts as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Violetta (La Traviata), Guilietta (I Capuletti ed I Montecchi), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Arabella and Zdenka (Arabella), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Micaëla (Carmen), Morgana (Alcina) Hero (Beatrice et Benedict), Tytania (Midsummer Nights Dream), Euridice (L’Orfeo) and the title role of Manon. She has been singing for Sirens of Song since 2005, is a member of the Opera Queensland Chorus, and gives recitals regularly.
Ireni studied music and ancient history at the University of Queensland, graduating with honours in ancient history in 1995. In 2003 she completed the Graduate Diploma of Vocal Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, in 2005, the Graduate Diploma in Opera Performance, and is currently completing a Masters of Music Studies in Performance. Ireni has won the Alton Budd Scholarship (2006); the Elizabeth Muir Postgraduate Scholarship (2005); the Margaret Nixon Prize for Voice and Accompaniment (2003); the Queensland Vocal Competition in Aria and Art Song (2002; 2004); and the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence (2003, 2005).
In 2005 Ireni took part as a soloist in the Conservatorium’s APRA and AMC award winning Encounters program in the Jindyworobak Review - an exposé of aboriginal music and the British perception of aboriginal music, through the eyes of aboriginal activist Daisy Bates. Ireni has also sung in many oratorios and masses – Beethoven’s Mass in C, Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion, Brahms German requiem, Verdi Requiem, Mozart Requiem, Haydn Paukenmesse, as well as soloist for the premiere of Colin Brumby’s Christmas Cantata in 2000.
Ireni has had the pleasure of working with many esteemed teachers in masterclasses, including Richard Miller, Elizabeth Todd, Gregory Yurisich, Janet Delpratt, John Dingle, Iain Burnside and Margaret Schindler.
In between study and performing, she spends time with partner Andrew and two young sons Francis (5) and Angus (3).
